Lamar Jackson wasn’t in the mood for social media celebrations following the Baltimore Ravens’ crucial 28-25 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. After snapping a two-game losing streak to earn their first win of the season, Jackson quickly turned his focus to the future.
As Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey began livestreaming a celebratory video on Instagram from the team’s private plane, Jackson stepped in to remind his teammate that the job was far from done. Humphrey, trying to engage his two-time MVP quarterback, asked Jackson to share some thoughts with the fans watching.
“Lamar, talk to us a little bit about getting that first down. You know, the flock, they gotta hear from you,” Humphrey said in the video, which was later shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Jackson, however, wasn’t feeling the celebratory mood just yet. From his seat, he pointed at Humphrey and offered a simple, focused response. “We got the dub. Keep stacking. You shouldn’t even be live right now,” Jackson said with a serious tone. “We gotta get right.”
Humphrey, clearly amused but respectful of Jackson’s message, replied with a quick “Yes sir,” before shifting the conversation to a lighter note, complimenting Jackson’s understated jewelry. “You got a lot of drip on low key,” Humphrey said with a laugh.
The two teammates shared a handshake and exchanged some friendly banter before the video cut off, with Jackson clearly making it known that while the win was important, the focus needed to be on the next game.
Prior to kickoff, Humphrey had already generated buzz on social media with his bold pregame attire—a cowboy hat, boots, a belt buckle, and a bolo tie, fully embracing a western theme. He wasn’t alone in this, as Ravens running back Derrick Henry followed suit, stepping out in similar cowboy gear, complete with a bolo tie and hat.
Henry’s fashion statement was matched by his on-field performance, as he dominated the Cowboys’ defense, rushing for 151 yards and two touchdowns. It was Henry’s best outing as a Raven, and he even caught the attention of Tom Brady, who selected him as Fox Sports’ “LFG Player of the Game.”
Meanwhile, Jackson delivered a stellar performance of his own, completing 12-of-15 passes for 182 yards and adding 87 rushing yards. His poise and efficiency helped secure the Ravens’ win, despite a late rally by the Cowboys. After the game, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh had nothing but praise for his quarterback. “Lamar was just phenomenal,” Harbaugh said.
The Ravens, who hadn’t started 0-2 since 2015, managed to avoid a deeper hole with this win. Jackson, the 2018 first-round pick, knows how crucial each game is for the team’s playoff aspirations. “Every game is a big game for us because we’re trying to get somewhere,” Jackson said after the win. “We’ve got to win these games to get to the playoffs, and we need to get to the Super Bowl. But it starts with the game that’s in front of us.”
The Ravens now turn their attention to Week 4, where they’ll face the unbeaten Buffalo Bills (2-0) on September 29 in Baltimore.
With their first win behind them, Jackson and his teammates know they need to keep their focus sharp and continue stacking victories if they hope to compete in the postseason.
