Magic Johnson, the legendary basketball figure known for his central role in the iconic Lakers-Celtics rivalry of the 1980s, expressed his discontent following the Boston Celtics’ recent triumph over the Dallas Mavericks.
On Monday, the Celtics secured a decisive 106-88 victory at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, clinching their franchise’s 18th NBA championship.
This historic win not only highlights their dominant season but also sets a new record, positioning the Celtics as the team with the most NBA championships, surpassing the Lakers.
Reacting to this milestone, Johnson took to the social media platform X to share his feelings: “I hate that the Celtics officially have more championships than us now,” highlighting the competitive spirit that defined his years with the Lakers.

During the 1980s, the Lakers captured five NBA titles under Johnson’s leadership, while the Celtics, their fierce rivals, secured three.
Despite his initial disappointment, Johnson acknowledged the strategic moves by Celtics GM Brad Stevens, praising him for enhancing the team’s roster and boosting their championship prospects. Notable acquisitions under Stevens’ leadership this season included Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, whose contributions were pivotal in Boston’s successful campaign.
The Celtics exhibited sheer dominance throughout the season, finishing the regular season with a record of 64-18 and continuing their formidable performance in the playoffs, where they lost only three games.
Combining their regular and postseason efforts, the team amassed an impressive overall record of 80-21, achieving a winning percentage of .792.
This performance not only reflects their current strength but also sets a high standard for future endeavors.
