Kyrie Irving celebrated a substantial bonus windfall from the Dallas Mavericks this Wednesday, marking a win-win scenario for all involved.
Under Irving’s 3-year, $120 million extension deal inked with the Mavericks last year, a portion included $6 million in incentive bonuses. Among these incentives, one was contingent upon team victories and Irving’s participation in games.
Meeting the criteria demanded Irving to appear in a minimum of 58 games this season, while the Mavericks needed to secure at least 50 wins for him to trigger a $1 million bonus. Irving notably contributed 37 minutes of playtime and scored 25 points during the Mavericks’ convincing 111-92 triumph over the Miami Heat on Wednesday night, marking their 50th victory of the season.

The significance of the bonus was apparent as Irving persevered through playing 31 consecutive games to meet the games played requirement, displaying a symbolic “50” with his hands as he made his way to the bench towards the game’s conclusion. Even Mavs owner Mark Cuban joined in on the jest, exchanging banter with Irving about the achievement.
Despite his substantial $37 million base salary this season, alongside lucrative endorsement deals, the $1 million bonus held significant value for Irving, showcasing his dedication and earning it through his on-court performance.
