Amid Taylor Swift’s relationship with Travis Kelce, his sister-in-law Kylie insists that the popstar’s presence in football should be celebrated due to her influence on young girls.
Swift has taken the NFL world by storm and dominated headlines since she started attending her tight end beau’s Kansas City Chiefs games amid their romance this season.
In an interview with Glamour, Kylie applauds Swift’s ability to generate an audience and expand the sport to a new demographic solely by being present. She also states how Swift’s effect on young girls resonates with her as somebody who grew up watching and playing sports.
“My dad only had two daughters, so I was the stand-in for watching football with my dad,” Kelce explains. “I always found it to be the most fun experience, watching with him to cheer on the Eagles. It was the Sunday activity.
“So, to see that other young girls are getting involved and that they want to sit down and cheer with their dads or they’re finding their own reason to be interested, it’s only something that can be painted in a positive and exciting light. It’s just another way to encourage girls to appreciate sport.”
Swift has made 24 percent of Gen Zers increase their interest in football this season, with 31 percent of them now rooting for the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, according to the latest LendingTree survey of 2,000 consumers in the country.
Kylie and her husband Jason first met Swift in Buffalo during the divisional playoffs. On the same evening, Jason famously celebrated his brother’s first of two touchdowns by taking off his shirt and jumping into the stands.
Although Kylie and Jason did not meet her until January, Swift and Travis made their relationship public in September after the 12-time Grammy winner made her first appearance at a Chiefs game.
Kylie has since teased Travis about ‘being a cat person’ due to Swift’s love for felines. She also urged the Chiefs tight end to help her convince Jason to let her get a cat.
She appears to remain adamant about this given her response to Jason’s topless celebration against the Bills. On an episode of the New Heights podcast, Jason admitted how Kylie tried and failed to stop him before the game.
‘The moment we got into the suite, I said ‘I’m taking my shirt off and I’m jumping out of that suite,’ Jason said. ‘I’m not asking for permission, I’m doing this.’
Kylie then hilariously responded to the statement with a comment on Instagram.
‘”I’m not asking for permission, I’m doing this” – is the exact quote I will say when I’m grabbing the keys to go get a cat,’ she wrote.
All three were also present on Sunday as the Chiefs defeated the Ravens in Baltimore to punch a ticket to the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. The trio will likely be in Sin City for the big game too, with the singer expected to jet back from her Eras Tour in Tokyo, Japan the night before.
