For Kristin Cavallari, her 2020 divorce from former NFL pro Jay Cutler marked a significant turning point in her life, one that involved relinquishing “a lot of control” and allowing “life to unfold.”
In a recent interview with Bustle, the reality TV star — who married Cutler in 2013 and shares three children with the former quarterback — reflected on how her life has evolved since ending their relationship.
“[The divorce] was when I let go of a lot of control, and I let life unfold before me instead of trying to plan everything and control everything. I’m way happier and I’m way more at peace in my life, so it’s working for me,” Cavallari, 37, said.
Cavallari, who first gained fame as a teenager on MTV’s beloved reality series “Laguna Beach,” gave viewers a closer look at her marriage to Cutler, 41, on the E! show “Very Cavallari,” which ran for three seasons from July 2018 to March 2020.
Shortly after the series aired its final episode, Cavallari announced that she and Cutler were going their separate ways.

In April 2020, she posted on Instagram, “With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce. We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of. This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family.”
Cavallari and Cutler share three children: sons Camden, 11, and Jaxon, 10, and their 8-year-old daughter Saylor.
Cutler, who played for the Broncos, Bears, and Dolphins during his 12-year NFL career, made headlines in 2022 when he remarked that he “threw a party” when their divorce settlement was finalized.
Cavallari, when asked by TMZ about his comments, cheekily responded, “I’ve been partying for two years straight.”
Since their split, both Cavallari and Cutler have moved on.
Cutler and his girlfriend, Samantha Robertson, made their relationship Instagram official in September 2023. Cavallari, on the other hand, debuted her relationship with 24-year-old TikToker Mark Estes in February, a 13-year age gap that sparked considerable internet chatter.
Addressing the age difference, Cavallari told Bustle, “I understand what it looks like from the outside world of, like, yeah, I’m dating a 24-year-old, but no one in my life has been like, ‘This is weird.’ Everyone’s like, ‘I get it. It makes sense.’” She added, “Emotionally, he’s able to step up to the plate, and he’s shown up for me more than anyone else I’ve ever dated.”
As Cavallari continues to embrace her newfound peace and happiness, she demonstrates a remarkable ability to navigate life’s transitions with grace and openness. Her journey post-divorce illustrates a commitment to personal growth and a willingness to embrace the unexpected.
