Klay Thompson is poised to explore free agency this summer, and while the Golden State Warriors remain a strong contender for his services, another team has emerged as a potential destination for the veteran marksman.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, there is “mutual interest” between Thompson and the Orlando Magic. Charania highlighted that Thompson, along with other free agents, sees the Magic as a team on the brink of contention if they assemble the right pieces.
“I’m told there is mutual interest between the Magic and Klay Thompson,” Charania revealed. “Thompson, along with several other vets around the league, are looking at the Magic as a situation where if you plug in a guy like Klay Thompson, you plug in another veteran player whether it be at the point guard position or shooting guard position, this team can make a real jump around Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.”

Despite their recent playoff exit, the Magic have shown promising signs of progress, finishing fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 47-35 record. This marked their first postseason appearance in four years, signaling an upward trajectory for the franchise.
While Thompson’s return to the Warriors is widely anticipated, his availability could attract significant interest across the league. There’s even speculation that a rival team might seize the opportunity if the Warriors opt to make changes to their championship core comprising Thompson, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green.
Thompson’s performance this season, averaging 17.9 points per game, has faced scrutiny due to shooting struggles. However, his proven track record as a prolific scorer and elite shooter makes him an enticing prospect for teams eyeing postseason success.
As Thompson contemplates his future, his potential departure from the Warriors looms as a significant storyline in the NBA offseason.
