Fans were left wondering if a Kiss Cam proposal that went horribly wrong during the Chargers-Rams preseason game was more scripted drama than genuine heartbreak.
The incident, captured on video and shared widely on X (formerly Twitter), shows a man in a Rams jersey seemingly distracted by his cell phone. When the couple is featured on the Kiss Cam during the game at SoFi Stadium, the man suddenly stands up, drops to one knee, and opens a ring box, ready to propose. His timing couldn’t have been more dramatic, as the stadium’s cameras focused on the moment during the intense crosstown rivalry.
The woman, who was wearing a Chargers jersey, initially reacts with surprise, putting her hand over her mouth as if caught off guard. But instead of joyfully accepting, she begins to wave her hands, signaling her hesitation and uncertainty. As she tentatively closes the ring box, a woman walking down the aisle with a tray of nachos suddenly crashes into the would-be groom, spilling cheese all over his white Puka Nacua jersey. However, upon closer inspection, some viewers noticed that the nachos seemed to spill on him before the collision actually occurred, raising suspicions about the authenticity of the event.
Visibly upset, the man looked angrily at both his girlfriend and his now cheese-covered jersey before turning away in frustration as the clip abruptly ends. The entire scene left fans buzzing online, with many questioning whether the proposal was a genuine moment or a staged skit meant to go viral.

“Every fake skit like this should cost a team a draft pick,” one X user, @sirwilliam72003, commented, expressing frustration over what he saw as an orchestrated stunt. “It’s embarrassing.”
Another user, @CForumGA, was convinced it was all part of a planned act, pointing out the narrative of a Rams fan being publicly rejected by a Chargers fan as part of the rivalry dynamic between the two Los Angeles teams. “They are rivals since they are both in LA, and the Rams are the away team. It’s just a funny skit,” the user wrote.
Others were not amused by the potential of it being a hoax. “So dumb. Is this how lame the LA sports teams are that they have to make up dumb ‘viral’ skits?” wrote @Pieschel_Chris on X. “Sad.”
For those who believe the incident was real, it was a night of mixed emotions. Despite the apparent rejection and the messy nacho incident, the Rams fan at least had the consolation of seeing his team defeat the Chargers 13-9. The Rams now prepare for their Week 1 matchup with the Lions on September 8.
Whether the proposal was an elaborate setup or an unfortunate genuine moment gone awry, it certainly got people talking—and questioning—about what really happened in the stands that night at SoFi Stadium.
