As ESPN and Amazon Prime football analyst Kirk Herbstreit travels across the country each week for his broadcasting duties, his youngest son, Chase Herbstreit, is making his own name on the football field.
Chase Herbstreit, a promising quarterback for St. Xavier High School in Ohio, is a member of the class of 2025 and is already drawing attention as a top recruit. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 185 pounds, the young quarterback has been showcasing his talent this season, but Friday night’s game against Moeller High School delivered what may be the most exciting highlight of his high school career so far.
On the opening play of the game, Herbstreit took off for an electrifying 80-yard touchdown run, setting the tone for an action-packed night. The play was an incredible display of athleticism and speed, immediately grabbing the attention of fans and sports analysts alike.
“Chase Herbstreit, the son of Kirk, went 80 yards ON THE FIRST PLAY OF THE GAME,” SportsCenter wrote, capturing the excitement of the moment.

Despite the early heroics by Chase, St. Xavier ultimately fell short in the contest, losing 45-37 to their rivals. Moeller, one of the top-ranked teams in the state, secured the win, but the game was a hard-fought battle from start to finish.
Moeller is currently ranked No. 3 in the Division I, Region 4 computer points standings and No. 6 in the MaxPreps Ohio rankings, while St. Xavier ranks No. 5 in Division I, Region 4 and No. 7 in the MaxPreps rankings. The two storied programs met for the 72nd time on Friday, with Moeller extending their dominance in the rivalry, now leading the all-time series 47-24-1. Last season, Moeller defeated St. Xavier 10-7 in the first round of the playoffs, adding to the intensity of the matchup.
While St. Xavier didn’t come away with the victory, the game was undoubtedly memorable for the Herbstreit family, as Chase continues to build his legacy on the field.
It’s clear that the young quarterback is forging his own path, and fans will be eager to see how his high school career unfolds in the years to come.
Despite the loss, it was a night filled with excitement and promise for the next generation of Herbstreit football.
