Kevin Durant recently opened up about his personal life, a rare occurrence for the Suns star, during an episode of Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive” podcast.
The 35-year-old discussed his views on relationships, heartbreak, and the allure of “baddies” at NBA games.
When co-host Mike Majlak asked Durant why he’s currently single, Durant candidly replied, “Because I don’t want a girlfriend. I have my moments… and times.” The interview was filmed before Paul and his girlfriend Nina Agdal announced their pregnancy in April.
YouTube personality and streamer iShowSpeed, real name Darren Jason Watkins Jr., also joined the show and speculated that Durant had his heart broken once, which might have influenced his stance on relationships. Durant, however, refuted this, explaining, “I wouldn’t say I’ve had my heart broken. I would say I started to understand women as I got older. Early on I understood, she’s not mine. Even if she may be my girlfriend, she might be influenced by other people… I don’t trip on that relationship. If we’re having a good time for a moment then cool, and if you end up venturing off and I do too, it is what it is.”
Despite this, iShowSpeed persisted, suggesting that Durant’s perspective was shaped by past hurt. Durant elaborated, “Every time I explain my stance to people, they say s–t like this, ‘Man, bro, you’ve just been hurt.’ Bro, I enjoy spending time with — it’s just maybe not as long as you like to spend with people. A couple days for me is cool.”

Durant also addressed a rumor about a list of reasons why he’s single that allegedly appeared on his Instagram Story in March. He denied its authenticity, saying, “You think I really wrote that down? That was a fake account. I am way too playa to write some s–t down like that. Hell no.”
The conversation shifted to whether Durant gets distracted by celebrities or hecklers at his games. He admitted to noticing attractive women in the stands, saying, “I wouldn’t say distracted but I do acknowledge them sometimes, especially if there’s baddies in the stands, for sure. If there’s celebs around the floor, you definitely want to see who it is and see if you can politic. When Rihanna walks in, it’s hard not to notice her. Just all the baddies, bro.”
Durant’s personal life, particularly his romantic history, has been a subject of interest. In 2013, he got engaged to former Lynx star Monica Wright after they reportedly met in 2006 at a high school all-star game.
However, they called off the engagement shortly after. Wright later explained her decision in a 2014 interview with Essence, saying, “Yeah, in my last relationship [with NBA All-Star Kevin Durant], I had to make a decision about compromising myself as a woman. I had to make a decision to leave a relationship, which a lot of people thought I was crazy to leave. There was a lot of criticism over it. But I think God had my back in it.”
In a 2015 GQ profile, Durant reflected on the breakup, admitting, “I had a fiancée, but…I really didn’t know how to, like, love her, you know what I’m saying? We just went our separate ways.”
Monica Wright has since moved on, marrying former professional basketball player Michael Rogers. In 2023, she was named assistant general manager of the Phoenix Mercury.
Durant’s openness on the podcast provides a rare glimpse into his views on relationships and personal boundaries, shedding light on his often private life off the court.
