In a surprising move this week, the Pittsburgh Steelers traded away Kenny Pickett, their former first-round draft pick, to the Philadelphia Eagles, marking a significant transition for the quarterback.
Pickett, who grew up as a fan of the Eagles, will now join his hometown team, where he is slated to serve as the backup to Jalen Hurts.
Upon learning of the trade, the wife of the 25-year-old quarterback, Amy Pickett, expressed her excitement and gratitude on her Instagram Story, exclaiming, “Could not be more excited and grateful!! Skooooo Birds!!”

Despite his collegiate success at Pitt, Pickett struggled to meet expectations in Pittsburgh. While he briefly held the role of the Steelers’ starter and aided the team in reaching the playoffs in 2023, the organization opted for a new direction this offseason.
The Steelers bolstered their quarterback lineup by signing Russell Wilson, formerly of the Broncos and Seahawks, to a one-year deal. Additionally, they acquired Justin Fields, the former Chicago Bears quarterback, via trade.
Now, Pickett finds himself in Philadelphia, where he aims to provide valuable depth behind Hurts. As the Eagles’ starting quarterback, Hurts experienced a rollercoaster 2023 season that concluded with a playoff defeat against the Buccaneers.
With this move, Pickett seeks to contribute to his new team’s quarterback lineup as they prepare for the challenges of the upcoming 2024 regular season.
