Kelly Stafford is forcefully denying rumors that she is struggling with cancer and expressing her anger towards the false reports.
In an Instagram caption and Instagram stories, she expressed her frustration, urging journalists to fact-check before spreading misinformation.
This reaction was sparked by a now-deleted tweet from a BroBible reporter with a headline suggesting that Kelly believes she may have cancer again.
The rumor began when Kelly spoke about undergoing some medical tests and experiencing back and stomach pain on her podcast, The Morning After.
“I did not have cancer, but I was terrified of the possibility considering what I had been feeling,” she wrote on Instagram. “[I] REITERATED IT SEVERAL TIMES that it was ruled out.”
“This is part of the reason I don’t want to share my life.. people take it and use it as click bait,” wrote Stafford.
“Most the time I wouldn’t care what people wrote because it didn’t matter. THIS MATTERS. This matters because it takes away from the people who are fighting this horrible disease.. fighting to live another day, fighting to be there with the ones they love, fighting 24/7,” she wrote.
She clarified on Instagram that she does not have cancer but had a stomach bug instead. Kelly, who is married to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, had previously been diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in 2019. She emphasized that she didn’t want to share her personal life because people twist it for clickbait. She implored readers to focus their prayers on those who are actually fighting cancer and clarified that she has never had cancer.
Kelly underwent a 12-hour surgery in 2019 to remove the brain tumor, which had complications and lasted twice as long as anticipated. She feels grateful for the prayers and empathizes with those battling cancer.
“When they opened me up, I had an abnormal vein… maybe abnormal for other neurosurgeons, but not the one we chose,” she wrote. “He had seen it before and written a paper on it. That’s truly God’s work. The prayers for my family, I’m beyond thankful for.”
In her Instagram message, she called out journalists using her situation as clickbait as NFL camp resumed.
“I’m so sorry again for the ones who are fighting. ? And to you so called journalists out there, be better. And stop using me as click bait because nfl camp is starting back ?”
