Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin, longtime friends from their collegiate basketball days at Iowa, have transitioned from teammates to opponents in the WNBA. Despite now playing for rival teams, their bond remains strong, especially when it comes to sharing pregame fashion tips—a little-known but delightful aspect of their friendship that has continued into their professional careers.
In a recent interview with Lindsay Schnell of USA Today, Martin revealed the ongoing fashion consultations between her and Clark. “We always send each other photos like ‘Wait, do you like this outfit?'” Martin shared, highlighting a playful side to their relationship. She added, “That’s a fun little piece about the WNBA. We were both nervous (at the beginning of the season) like, ‘What are we going to wear? We always just wear sweatpants!'”
Clark and Martin’s journey began at Iowa, where from 2020 to 2024, they were pivotal in leading their team to consecutive NCAA Tournament championship games. Their college careers were marked by significant achievements and a deepening friendship that evidently extends beyond the basketball court.

The 2024 WNBA Draft marked a new chapter for both athletes, with Clark being selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever, and Martin joining the reigning champions, the Las Vegas Aces, as a second-round pick.
Their careers have taken different trajectories with their new teams—while Martin’s Aces have recorded a solid 10-6 start to the season, Clark’s Fever have faced challenges, posting an 8-12 record.
The dynamic of their relationship adds an intriguing layer to the matchups between the Aces and the Fever. The teams have already competed once this season, with the Aces coming out on top in a game on May 25.
They are set to face off again tonight and will meet twice more in September, adding more chapters to the ongoing story of these two friends competing at the professional level.
Tonight’s game, scheduled for 9:30 pm ET, promises not only a display of high-level basketball but also a testament to the enduring friendship between Clark and Martin.
It will be broadcast on ESPN, offering fans a chance to see how these former teammates navigate their evolving relationship on the court while still supporting each other off it.
