The Kansas City Royals are open to having Patrick Mahomes participate in their practice sessions.
Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl MVP, not only excels on the football field but is also a part-owner of the Royals and was once a promising baseball player. Recently, he expressed a desire to revisit his baseball skills by joining a Royals spring practice. Royals manager JJ Picollo warmly welcomed the idea.
“We’d love to have him come. He’s welcome anytime,” Picollo told the Kansas City Star. “He’s part owner of the team; he can do whatever he wants,” he added, laughing.
“It would be great. It’d be fun to have him around,” Picollo continued. “I know that a couple of our guys have relationships with him. But if he wanted to come down, we’d love to have him come down.”
Picollo also noted the challenging timing between Mahomes’ NFL commitments and the MLB spring training schedule. “Problem is when we’re in spring training, he’s out celebrating Super Bowls. The timing doesn’t always match up. It would be neat, though. It would be neat to have him. We would love that.”

Mahomes, whose attendance at Royals games is frequent, also participated in the Big Slick celebrity softball game at Kauffman Stadium last year. His football success has recently earned him a spot on Time’s 100 Most Influential People list.
In an interview with Time, Mahomes talked about exploring his baseball potential. “I’ve talked to the Royals,” Mahomes said. “And if I can maybe go out to a spring training, I’m not opposed to that. I’ll get it approved by the Chiefs and everything like that. But maybe one of these years, I go out there and see what I got. See if I can still hit the ball or pitch or whatever that is. Maybe not in the games, but I can at least practice with them.”
When Time’s Sean Gregory discussed Mahomes’ baseball aspirations with Chiefs coach Andy Reid, Reid humorously suggested, “He’d have to take me as a manager.”
