Carson Wentz’ star has faded quite a bit from the time he was considered the Philadelphia Eagles franchise quarterback after being drafted second overall out of North Dakota State in the 2016 NFL draft.
Wentz had a Pro Bowl season for the Eagles in 2017, but was suffered a torn ACL in Week 14 which ended his season.
Nick Foles would replace Wentz at quarterback and lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots.
Wentz never seemed to regain his post-injury form as he played three more seasons in Philadelphia before heading over to the Indianapolis Colts for the 2021 season.
Wentz lasted one season in Indianapolis before being traded to the Washington Commanders.
While with the Commanders, Wentz was underwhelming and started seven games for them before ending up on injured reserve. Upon his activation, the Commanders decided to stick with Taylor Heiniecke at quarterback instead of going back to Wentz.
The 31-year-old will provide the Chiefs with a reliable option if star quarterback Patrick Mahomes is unable to take the field at any point during the 2024 NFL season.
