At just 24 years old, Clyde Edwards-Helaire is already setting the stage for his life after the NFL. When not honing his skills to navigate through defenders, the Kansas City Chiefs running back is immersed in learning how to be a nurse and provide care for others. Edwards-Helaire casually shared this news on TikTok, piquing the interest of fans.
In response to inquiries from reporters, Edwards-Helaire revealed that his decision to pursue nursing is rooted in his mother’s profession as a nurse. This 24-year-old athlete expressed that this has been a goal he’s been actively pursuing since his college days at LSU in 2019.
“I know, for my profession, what I want to do for the rest of my life,” said Edwards-Helaire. “If y’all need some shots or an IV, holler at ya boy.”
He explained that logistical challenges prevented him from pursuing nursing while at LSU, but now, with the opportunity to return to school, he is committed to realizing this goal.
“I wasn’t able to do the nursing things because, being at LSU, the nursing school and playing football, I would have to do LSU in New Orleans and some other stuff, and I was not necessarily planning on leaving early but had the opportunity to,” Edwards-Helaire said.
“So now I’m back at school, rolling.”
Originally starting college with a focus on sports science, considering majors like kinesiology or a career as a physical therapist, Edwards-Helaire’s LSU roster page listed his major as sports administration.
While preparing for an important playoff game against the Buffalo Bills, Edwards-Helaire is not only focused on football but also ensuring a well-planned career beyond the gridiron.
