The Kansas City Chiefs officially announced the signing of former Wales rugby sensation, Louis Rees-Zammit, on Friday.
Rees-Zammit made waves in the rugby world by deciding to leave the sport behind and pursue a career in the NFL, starting his journey through the International Player Pathway program in January.
After engaging in contract discussions with multiple teams, the 23-year-old ultimately chose Kansas City, where he signed a reported contract worth $884,000 with the reigning Super Bowl champions.
The franchise took to social media on Friday afternoon to confirm the addition of ‘Rees-Lightning’, urging Chiefs Kingdom to extend a warm welcome to the Welshman.

In a move signaling their plans for him, the organization hinted that the former Gloucester winger would be utilized in the running back position.
Louis Rees-Zammit, formerly of the British and Irish Lions rugby team, has made an unexpected career shift by joining the Kansas City Chiefs, who recently secured their second consecutive Super Bowl victory.
Despite his earlier decision to leave rugby in January, Rees-Zammit opted for a transition to American football over other potential destinations like the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, and Denver Broncos.
His choice to join the Chiefs came as a surprise, particularly given his prominent role in rugby and his departure just before Wales’ Six Nations campaign.
However, Rees-Zammit’s impressive display at the International Pathway Program (IPP), where he showcased his speed and power, likely caught the attention of NFL scouts.
Now, Rees-Zammit is poised to undergo training with the Chiefs during the summer camp, preparing for the upcoming 2024 NFL season set to start in September.
