Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice finally broke his silence, via his lawyer, on the multi-vehicle accident that he was allegedly involved in on Saturday in Dallas.
Police were reportedly seeking the star wide receiver as Rice “retained legal counsel” following the emergence of dashcam footage and photos of the crash site.
Now, the Kansas City Chiefs have addressed the matter which has dominated the NFL news cycle for the past 48 hours.
This from NBC News:
“In an interview with KCMO Talk Radio’s “Mundo in the Morning,” Chiefs president Mark Donovan said the team will “react accordingly” after all the facts are gathered on the crash.
“In all these situations you have to wait until you have all the facts and frankly, we don’t have all the facts at this point,” Donovan told Pete Mundo on Monday. “The one comforting fact that we do have is that there was a multi-car crash in Texas, in Dallas, and fortunately, it doesn’t appear that anyone was hurt and we should be grateful for that. We’ll get to the bottom of it, we’ll gather the facts and we’ll react accordingly.”
Nobody was seriously injured in the accident which likely means that Rice has avoided truly serious or career-threatening legal consequences which befell former Las Vegas wide receiver Henry Ruggs III in a fatal drunk driving crash which resulted in the death of a woman and her dog in Las Vegas in 2021.
Ruggs was sentenced to three to ten years in prison for the tragic crash.
On Monday afternoon, Rice’s attorney, Royce West, made a statement on behalf of Rice addressing the crash and indicating that RIce has been cooperating with local authorities.
“On behalf of Rashee Rice, his thoughts are with everyone impacted by the automobile accident on Saturday.
Rashee is cooperating with local authorities and will take all necessary steps to address this situation responsibly. Any and all requests for comment can be directed to his attorney Mr. Royce West of West & Associates, LLP.”
Rice was a rookie out of SMU for the Kansas City Chiefs last season as he helped them to a second consecutive Super Bowl championship.
For the 2023 regular season, Rice finished had 938 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns on 79 catches over 16 games.
