Let Justin Fields cook is the message being sent.
Justin Fields had a challenging outing this week for the Chicago Bears, completing just 16 of 29 pass attempts for 211 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. He also deviated from his usual dynamic style, running only four times for a mere three yards.
Fields didn’t hide his disappointment. During a recent press conference, he candidly discussed his lackluster performance on Sunday, describing it as “robotic.” When asked why this happened, he pointed to coaching.

“My goal this week is to say, ‘F it — just play football,’” Fields said according to Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. “That’s when I play my best, when I’m out there being free. I’m going to go out there and be me.”
Fields excels when he escapes the pocket and uses his legs. If the coaching staff is intentionally discouraging this aspect of his game, it may not be the best approach.
Meanwhile, Baker Mayfield had a strong performance, passing for 317 yards and a touchdown, adding to his impressive debut with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 27-17 victory over the struggling Chicago Bears. DJ Moore, who was acquired in the offseason to provide more playmaking options for Chicago’s young quarterback, recorded six receptions for 104 yards. However, the Bears’ rushing game was limited to just 67 yards.
The Bears have now lost 12 consecutive games dating back to last season, marking the longest losing streak in franchise history. Their challenges continue as they face the Kansas City Chiefs in the upcoming week.
The Bears haven’t secured a victory since Week 7 of the previous season when they defeated the New England Patriots on October 24, 2022. It’s been nearly a year since they last tasted success.
