The Chicago Bears “did right” by quarterback Justin Fields as they reportedly declined better trade offers to trade him to the Pittsburgh Steelers which was his preferred destination.
In the deal, the Bears only acquired a conditional sixth-round draft pick in 2025.

Five other teams were reportedly interested in trading for Fields.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Fields did not want to be traded to at least four of those teams.
It’s unclear which four teams are being referred to by Rapoport, but one is believed to be the Philadelphia Eagles who reportedly discussed a trade for Fields with the Bears before trading for quarterback Kenny Pickett from the Steelers.
Fields will enter the season for the Steelers as back-up to nine-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson who signed a one-year contract with the Steelers this offseason.
