A fresh era was anticipated for the Bears, but Sunday’s outcome had a familiar sting for Chicago enthusiasts.
Despite the absence of Aaron Rodgers, the perennial thorn in their side, the Packers strode into Soldier Field with Jordan Love stepping into the quarterback role. The Bears, armed with their own franchise quarterback and a revamped roster following an offseason spending spree, were resolute in their quest to end Green Bay’s reign.
However, that ambition remained unfulfilled.
Love commenced his tenure as the new face of the Packers with an impressive 245 passing yards and three touchdown throws in a lopsided 38–20 contest. This marked Green Bay’s ninth consecutive victory over Chicago.
The Week 1 defeat proved so disheartening that Bears QB Justin Fields deemed it necessary to issue an apology.
“Without a doubt, it stings—not only because it’s the first game of the season and a loss, but because it’s a loss to them,” Fields expressed, as reported by the Chicago Tribune. “I just want to extend my apologies to my teammates and all the fans who were rooting for us. We’ll rebound and come back strong.”
Fields amassed 216 passing yards, one touchdown pass, and one interception in the loss. He also showcased his running ability, gaining 59 yards on the ground while enduring four sacks.
Chicago will seek redemption next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET when they face the Buccaneers on the road.
