Discussing a melancholic Halloween experience for Josh McDaniels and his family, it turned out that the former Raiders coach received the unfortunate news of his termination while his children were out trick-or-treating on the spooky holiday. Following this revelation, McDaniels felt compelled to summon his kids back home on Tuesday night to convey the disheartening news to his family, as reported by Jeff Howe of TheAthletic.
This somber development occurred just a few days after Raiders players and coaches had reportedly unleashed a barrage of criticism and frustration upon Josh McDaniels during a team meeting, a precursor to his eventual firing.

On Tuesday night, owner Mark Davis made the difficult decision to relieve McDaniels of his coaching duties after he struggled to secure victories, losing 16 out of 25 games since his appointment in 2022. This marked his second stint as a head coach in the NFL, the first being with the Denver Broncos from 2009 to 2010.
Subsequently, it was revealed that McDaniels’ termination, along with other staff members, including general manager Dave Ziegler, would impose a significant financial burden on Mark Davis, estimated to be around $85 million.
In the aftermath of McDaniels’ departure, the Raiders appointed Antonio Pierce as the interim head coach, and under his leadership, the team achieved their first victory in a resounding 30-6 triumph over the Giants the previous Sunday. Following the victory, Pierce delivered some spirited post-game remarks in the locker room.
The decision to summon his children back home on Halloween, while they were enjoying trick-or-treating, seemed to be a regrettable move in line with the series of unfortunate events that transpired during McDaniels’ tenure as Raiders coach.
