Minnesota is currently the centerpiece of an inspiring narrative.
Josh Dobbs wasn’t anticipated to play a significant role for the Vikings in Week 9 against the Falcons, having recently been acquired in a trade with the Cardinals earlier that week.
Dobbs unexpectedly got the call to action following an injury to Jaren Hall, which sidelined Minnesota’s starting quarterback for the game. Despite a notable lack of preparation and virtually no familiarity with his new team, the 28-year-old managed to lead the Vikings to a crucial victory.

When speaking to reporters after the game, Dobbs openly admitted that he didn’t even know all of his teammates’ full names. In fact, he had never taken a snap with the first-string offense during practice, never thrown a pass to any of his teammates, and hadn’t even practiced snapping the ball from center Garrett Bradbury.
Dobbs, with a positive outlook, remarked, “That’s for next week,” said Dobbs, via ESPN’s Kevin Seifert.
Dobbs also informed reporters that while running the Vikings’ offense, head coach Kevin O’Connell was actively explaining and “mapping out” plays for the quarterback during the huddle, as reported by Alec Lewis of The Athletic.
O’Connell described Dobbs’ ability to absorb this information on the spot as “one of the most impressive things” he had witnessed in his career.
In his first appearance for the Vikings, Dobbs completed 20 of 30 pass attempts for 158 yards and two touchdowns, one of which was the game-winning six-yard pass to Brandon Powell. He also rushed for 66 yards and scored a touchdown.
Despite not having any prior practice with the team before being thrust into action on Sunday, Dobbs embraced the unexpected opportunity and played a pivotal role in Minnesota’s narrow victory.
Dobbs exemplifies the essence of determination and proudly wears his heart on his sleeve.
