The cornerstone of a successful relationship between a head coach and his quarterback is trust.
Vikings quarterback Josh Dobbs recently provided a detailed account of the 36 hours leading up to his trade from the Cardinals, shedding light on how Coach Jonathan Gannon deceived him on multiple occasions, as reported by FOX9.

Following a 31-24 loss to the Ravens on the preceding Sunday, Gannon assured Dobbs that he would be starting against the Browns the following week. However, on the subsequent Monday, Gannon reversed course, informing Dobbs that rookie Clayton Tune would be starting over him but reassuring him that there would be no trade or release.
Dobbs expressed his disappointment, stating, “He looked me in the face and said, ‘You’re not getting traded; you’re not being released. You’re going to be here in Arizona.'”
The following Tuesday morning, Dobbs woke up to a text from his agent, suggesting that he could be traded to the Vikings or back to the Browns.
Soon after, he was indeed traded to the Vikings. Remarkably, just five days after the trade, Dobbs came off the bench to play a significant role in the Sunday game against the Falcons, securing a 31-28 victory.
Dobbs’ stellar performance earned him Offensive Player of the Week honors and another start the following week against the Saints.
Dobbs’ revelations about Gannon’s actions are likely to linger in the minds of players. Once trust is compromised with players, the job of a coach becomes significantly more challenging.
