Through three games in the 2024 NFL season, quarterback Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills have emerged as an offensive powerhouse, boasting a perfect 3-0 record and leading the league in scoring. With 14 offensive touchdowns, the Bills are ahead of the competition, including the second-place New Orleans Saints, and have steamrolled past opponents like the Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, and Jacksonville Jaguars, scoring 34, 31, and 47 points in those matchups, respectively.
What makes this offensive dominance even more impressive is that the Bills have achieved it without their former star wide receiver, Stefon Diggs. During the offseason, Diggs, once considered Allen’s top target, was traded to the Houston Texans, a move that raised eyebrows across the league. While Diggs has been one of the NFL’s most reliable pass catchers over the past five years, he’s also garnered a reputation for his fiery personality, often seen expressing frustration on the sidelines, especially when things didn’t go the Bills’ way.
In fact, Diggs’ sometimes volatile presence was a source of tension, with several instances where he was seen yelling at teammates, including Allen. This behavior led to speculation that the Bills might benefit from his departure, and early in the season, it seems that theory is proving true. Without Diggs, the Bills’ offense appears to be firing on all cylinders, perhaps embracing a more cohesive, team-first mentality.

Following Buffalo’s dominant 47-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night, Allen made comments that seemed to take a subtle jab at his former teammate. While not mentioning Diggs by name, Allen emphasized the value of having a team focused on winning over personal stats.
“It’s a fun and wonderful thing when you’ve got a bunch of guys that don’t care about the stats, they don’t care about the touchdowns,” Allen said to reporters after throwing four touchdown passes in the victory. “And again, I think, throughout practice, we’ve just had this mindset of, ‘Hey, let’s just do things the right way, and find ways to win football games,’ and that’s what we’re doing right now.”
Allen’s statement underscores the contrast between the current Bills offense and the atmosphere when Diggs was still on the team. Known for his “diva-like” attitude, Diggs frequently demanded the ball, and his visible frustration could sometimes be a distraction. Now, with a revamped receiving corps, the Bills seem to be thriving under a more unified team approach.
Despite the absence of a clear-cut No. 1 receiver, Allen’s performance this season has been stellar. He’s completed 75% of his passes for 634 yards, seven touchdowns, and zero interceptions, while adding 85 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
His precision and leadership have positioned him as the current favorite to win the NFL MVP award. Meanwhile, in Houston, Diggs has had a quieter start to the season, recording 20 receptions for 164 yards and two touchdowns over three games.
For Allen, though, the goal extends beyond personal accolades. After multiple playoff disappointments in recent years, Allen is focused on leading the Bills back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1994. With offensive production down across the league—even reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes has admitted to struggling—it appears this could be the year the Bills finally break through in the AFC.
The road ahead for Buffalo won’t be easy. The team now faces three consecutive tough road games against AFC opponents, starting with a Sunday Night Football clash against the Baltimore Ravens. After that, they’ll take on the Houston Texans and the New York Jets in a Monday Night Football showdown. These matchups will be a critical test of the Bills’ playoff aspirations and a chance for Allen to solidify his MVP credentials.
If the Bills can maintain their offensive momentum and Allen continues to play at an elite level, Buffalo could be on the verge of a special season—one that not only cements Allen’s place among the NFL’s elite but also propels the team toward its long-awaited Super Bowl run.
