Jordan Spieth’s bid at the Genesis Invitational hosted at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif., was marred by a mental lapse on Friday.
In his second round, Spieth encountered trouble on the Palisades course’s par-3 4th hole, missing the green wide left and failing to sink a 5-foot putt for par. Unfortunately, he mistakenly recorded a score of three strokes instead of the actual four on his scorecard, leading to disqualification from the tournament for the error.
Accepting responsibility, the 30-year-old golfer acknowledged his mistake in a post, expressing his disappointment at missing out on the weekend’s competition despite his love for the event and the course.

Spieth had entered Friday trailing leader Patrick Cantlay by only two strokes in the $20 million event. His second round started promisingly with three birdies in the first seven holes but took a downturn on the back nine with three bogeys before finishing with a birdie on the 17th hole and a double bogey on the 18th.
Reports indicated Spieth had been feeling unwell earlier in the day, which might have contributed to his lapse in judgment.
This disqualification marked the first in Spieth’s 263-tournament career on the PGA Tour.
