According to sources informed Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Jonathan Taylor, the running back for the Indianapolis Colts, is in good health and would probably pass a physical examination if conducted today.
Taylor had been placed on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list at the end of August, necessitating his absence from the first four games of the season. Ian Rapoport also mentioned that all possibilities remain open, and the Colts might still explore the option of trading the 2021 rushing champion.
In August, when the team attempted to trade Taylor, the Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers emerged as the primary suitors. The Packers had offered two mid-round draft picks, but discussions have ceased now that the season has begun, as per Rapoport. Indianapolis had also inquired about second-year wide receiver Christian Watson in the trade, but the Packers declined, according to information from Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Although Miami and Indianapolis engaged in extensive discussions, a concrete deal did not materialize. Rapoport further noted that the Dolphins are expected to maintain their interest.
Dolphins general manager Chris Grier mentioned in August that there were no specific offers exchanged between the two teams and that the talks remained at a general stage, according to Kevin Patra of NFL Network. Grier stated, “In terms of being close or anything, there was nothing really close.”
Tensions had escalated between Taylor and the Colts earlier in the summer when the team declined to offer him a contract extension. There exists a slim possibility that Taylor might return to play for the Colts after serving his four-game absence, but this would likely hinge on a contract extension, as per Rapoport.
At the age of 24, Taylor is currently in the final year of his rookie contract, boasting an impressive career record of 3,841 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns in 43 games.
