In contrast to much of the world, Jonathan Owens formed a connection with Simone Biles on a personal level before recognizing her as a gymnast. The 28-year-old Green Bay Packers safety shared their story on The Pivot podcast, co-hosted by Channing Crowder and Owens’ wife, Simone Biles, who recently became the most decorated gymnast in history.
When asked about how he managed to win over Simone Biles, Owens admitted to not knowing who she was when they initially connected on the Raya dating app in 2020. He recounted checking her profile after the match, saying, “I’m like, ‘Lemme see who this is.’ I never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiosity.”
Despite realizing Biles’ notable Instagram following, Owens confessed that he wasn’t familiar with her achievements, particularly during the Olympics, as he was in college without access to channels broadcasting the games. Biles took the initiative and messaged him first on the dating app, leading to text exchanges and their first in-person meeting three days later.

Due to COVID restrictions, their initial interactions were limited, but Biles traveled from the suburbs to Houston, where Owens was playing for the Houston Texans. The couple eventually tied the knot on April 22, 2023, at the Harris County Courthouse, followed by a second wedding celebration in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Responding to inquiries about whether he considers himself the “catch” in the relationship, Owens expressed that he believes men are the catch. He recounted how they instantly connected during their first meeting, laughing throughout the night. Owens also realized the impact of Biles’ fame when they garnered attention at a popular cookie spot, where admirers, particularly kids and their mothers, stopped in awe.
Following the podcast episode’s release, Owens addressed potential criticism in an Instagram post, sharing pictures of their wedding day and casual moments.
He captioned the post, “Unbothered ??? Just know we locked in over here ??.” Biles, in support, left a comment on the post, writing, “??? for life.”
Seems like these two are truly locked in.
