At the close of 2023, LIV Golf made headlines with one of its most significant signings to date: Jon Rahm, one of the PGA Tour’s top players, was persuaded to join their ranks. Since then, however, rumors have emerged suggesting that Rahm might be regretting his decision. In a recent interview, Rahm made it clear that he has no regrets and pushed back strongly against the speculation.
Jon Rahm enjoyed a successful final season on the PGA Tour before making the jump to LIV Golf. In 2023, he captured his second major title and first green jacket by winning The Masters. He also secured four additional victories and briefly reclaimed the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings before finishing the year ranked No. 3. Unlike some of his peers, who were vocal in their opposition to LIV Golf, Rahm had always left the door open to the possibility of joining the Saudi-backed tour.
According to insiders, Rahm had been approached about joining LIV Golf earlier but initially set an asking price that even Saudi Arabia’s deep-pocketed Public Investment Fund found too steep. However, after negotiations, the two sides agreed on a reported $350 million deal. Rahm made his LIV Golf debut at a tournament in Mexico earlier this year, but since then, whispers have circulated that he might not be entirely content with his new surroundings.

These rumors gained traction after a couple of incidents during LIV Golf events. In June, Rahm expressed frustration after being annoyed by a drone filming the action, and in July, he lashed out at fans who were being disruptive while he attempted a shot. These moments of visible irritation led some to speculate that Rahm was unhappy with his decision to leave the PGA Tour.
The rumors reached a peak earlier this month when Golf Digest cited an anonymous PGA Tour “veteran” who claimed that Rahm was experiencing “deep regret” over joining LIV Golf. However, Rahm has firmly denied these claims. In a recent interview with Fox News, the Spanish golfer dismissed the speculation, attributing it to a narrative pushed by LIV Golf critics who are intent on portraying players as unhappy.
“I don’t know why some people keep insisting and trying to make this happen,” Rahm said. “They did that with Brooks [Koepka] last season. They have to come up with somebody being unhappy, and the truth is, we’re all extremely happy. I don’t have buyer’s remorse. It’s been a really fun ride.”
Rahm went on to explain that his recent struggles in tournaments had nothing to do with his decision to join LIV Golf. “I’ve had bad years in majors before,” he said. “Before that, they blamed it on me not being able to control my emotions; they would compare me to something else. The fact is, I just played bad, plain and simple. I don’t know what else to tell you.”
He also acknowledged that he has been dealing with some personal challenges related to his wife’s pregnancy with their third child, but he reaffirmed his commitment to LIV Golf, stating, “I think there’s a lot of potential in LIV Golf.”
With these statements, Rahm aims to put the rumors to rest and make it clear that he is fully on board with his decision to join LIV Golf. As one of the sport’s top players, his words carry weight, and his commitment to LIV Golf could help stabilize the fledgling tour as it continues to establish itself as a formidable competitor to the PGA Tour.
