If Johnny Manziel is contemplating a return to football, there’s a league ready to welcome him back with open arms, and it’s none other than the Arena Football League (AFL), now under new leadership for the 2024 season.
AFL commissioner Lee Hutton III recently disclosed in an interview with TMZ Sports that he’s actively pursuing marquee names for the upcoming season, including Manziel. Hutton revealed that he has personally reached out to Manziel, expressing a desire for him to join the league as one of its quarterbacks.
In his statement to TMZ, Hutton expressed eagerness to bring Manziel aboard, highlighting the former NFL quarterback’s prior success in indoor football. He emphasized that there would be a spot for Manziel in the AFL, particularly given his Texas roots and previous achievements in the sport.

“Absolutely,” Hutton said, via TMZ. “Some of them have received personal [direct messages] from me. I reached out to Johnny Manziel. So, Johnny, I’m a Texas guy. So, if you’re ready to come back and indoors — because you did very well — we will take you. We will find a spot for you.”
Manziel, aged 31, has been out of football since his brief tenure with the FCF Zappers. Joining the AFL would mark a notable return to the game, reminiscent of his stint with the Memphis Express.
At present, it remains uncertain whether Manziel will entertain the AFL’s offer, especially as he is currently engrossed in the NCAA Tournament. Nonetheless, should he choose to accept, Manziel’s presence would undoubtedly inject a fresh dose of excitement and intrigue into the AFL landscape.
