How did Johnny Manziel shed 40 pounds at the young age of 23?
In a candid conversation with retired Denver Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe on his podcast, Club Shay Shay, the former Cleveland Browns quarterback divulged that his weight loss was attributed to a “strict diet of blow.”
Manziel opened up about his turbulent NFL career and his struggles with addiction, admitting that he reached a low point during his second season in Cleveland. Despite a lackluster performance on the field, Manziel continued to engage in a party lifestyle off the field. After the season concluded, he found himself in Las Vegas, where his lifestyle took a toll on his health.
“At that point in time, man, I would look in a mirror and I didn’t see myself any different than when I was in Cleveland,” he confessed. “Until I stepped on a scale at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, I didn’t realize I had lost 40 pounds at all.”
Manziel attributed his drastic weight loss to his indulgence in cocaine, oxycontin, and Percocet, which he described as “very, very tumultuous” in his life. Reflecting on his mindset during that period, Manziel acknowledged his reckless behavior and disregard for his well-being.
“How do you lose 40 pounds?” Manziel pondered. “You’re on a strict diet of blow.”

Despite his tumultuous journey, Manziel expressed gratitude towards his family and friends, particularly rapper Drake, for their unwavering support in his journey to sobriety. He credited Drake with positively impacting his life and serving as a constant source of support.
Following his turbulent NFL career, which culminated in his last stint with the Browns in 2015, Manziel has grappled with mental health issues and addiction. Despite unsuccessful endeavors in the Canadian Football League and the AAF, he remains committed to maintaining sobriety and prioritizing his well-being.
