Joel Embiid, the center for the 76ers, found himself in hot water after his viral celebration this past weekend, and it’s going to hit him in the wallet.
The NBA has officially levied a $35,000 fine against Embiid due to the exuberant celebration he exhibited during the game against the Trail Blazers on Sunday, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

In the midst of the contentious moment, Embiid unleashed a “crotch chop” gesture following a successful layup and an and-one play. This move bore a striking resemblance to the famed “Suck It” celebration associated with WWE’s D-Generation X, but it appears the NBA authorities didn’t appreciate the homage.
Following the announcement of Embiid’s fine, WWE legend Triple H extended a playful offer to the NBA superstar. With WrestleMania 40 scheduled for April 2024 in Philadelphia, Triple H suggested that there’s a place where such antics wouldn’t just be tolerated but celebrated.
“Hey [Joel Embiid], I know a place where you can do that all day, and everyone will love it. WrestleMania 40 is right there in Philly…” Triple H quipped.
This isn’t the first time Embiid has resorted to the D-Generation X celebration, having previously incurred a $25,000 fine for a similar act against the Nets in January. Although the celebration is becoming a pricey affair for Embiid, the WWE invitation might just make it all worth it.
