Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid recently shared that he believes he receives more hate online than any other NBA player. “I’m probably the most hated guy in the league,” Embiid stated on “The Check Ball Show” with Drew Hanlen. “I don’t know why … I’m just cool. I don’t know what’s there to hate about me.”
At 30 years old, Embiid had the best statistical season of his career, averaging a personal-best 34.7 points, 5.6 assists, and 11 rebounds per game. This marked the third consecutive season that Embiid averaged at least 30 points per game, solidifying his status as one of the league’s top performers.
Despite his impressive numbers, Embiid’s season was once again marred by injuries. The 7-footer played in only 39 games and underwent surgery to clean up cartilage in his knee, marking the second arthroscopic surgery on his left meniscus in his career. Due to missing the NBA’s 65-game threshold, Embiid was ineligible to compete for the league’s scoring title.
Embiid acknowledged that he sees the negative posts and comments directed at him on social media, and he uses the criticism as motivation to improve. “I pay attention to it because I like it. Because that’s the motivation that I need. When you get to a certain level, when you’ve accomplished a lot … you need something else to keep motivating you, and that’s one of the things,” he explained.

The Philadelphia 76ers faced disappointment in the postseason, being bounced by the New York Knicks in the opening round.
Despite the team’s early exit, Embiid performed admirably, averaging 33 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists over the six-game series.
Looking ahead, Embiid is set to make his Olympic debut at the upcoming Paris Games. He chose to represent the USA over Cameroon and France, a decision that has added to the anticipation surrounding his international play.
This move is expected to bring a new dimension to Embiid’s career and further elevate his profile on the global stage.
Embiid’s journey continues to be one of resilience and determination. Despite the setbacks and the criticism he faces, he remains focused on his goals and uses the negativity as fuel to push himself further.
As he prepares for the Olympics and another NBA season, fans and critics alike will be watching to see how he continues to evolve and respond to the challenges ahead.
