Joe Burrow recently revealed the unexpected reason behind his decision to get a blonde buzzcut, which has taken the internet by storm.
The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback addressed the change in his appearance during a press conference, a day after his new hairdo went viral upon his arrival at training camp.
Burrow explained that the idea originated from a conversation with his teammate, B.J. Hill. “B.J. said that if I buzzed it and bleached it, he would do it, too. So now everybody’s gotta hold him accountable ’cause he’s gotta do it in the next week,” Burrow said. Ultimately, Burrow decided to follow through with the drastic change simply out of boredom. “I got bored, that’s about it,” he told reporters.

The new look immediately drew comparisons online to Eminem’s platinum blonde hairdo from his “Slim Shady” era and WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes. Rhodes himself acknowledged the resemblance by sharing a photoshopped image of Burrow on X, formerly known as Twitter, featuring Burrow wearing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship title. “Time to finish your story this season @JoeyB? @Toms_Customs,” Rhodes captioned the post.
The caption was a nod to Rhodes’ “finish the story” mantra, which he adopted after returning to WWE in 2022 following a six-year absence. Rhodes’ goal was to achieve the WWE Championship, a milestone his legendary father, Dusty Rhodes, never reached. This slogan also resonates with Burrow, whose 2023-24 NFL season was cut short due to a wrist injury.
Despite the setback, Burrow remains optimistic about his recovery and future prospects.
He provided a health update during the press conference, sharing his progress and determination to improve. “I was happy with [it] today. Still feeling it out, still have some throws where it’s like, ‘Well what did that look like?’ Usually goes where I want it to but doesn’t spin the way I want it to. So, we’re still working through that,” Burrow said.
He continued, “But I feel really good about where I’m at. I feel like I kind of figured something out toward the end of the practice there in individuals. So, looking forward to exploring that a little more.”
As Burrow navigates his recovery and prepares for the upcoming season, his unexpected hairstyle change has not only sparked conversations but also symbolized his resilient and adventurous spirit.
