The Cincinnati Bengals’ struggles continued on Monday night, as they fell to 0-3 after a tough loss to the Washington Commanders. The defense was unable to contain the Commanders’ offense throughout the game, leaving the Bengals’ offense in constant catch-up mode, a situation they couldn’t overcome.
Following the disappointing defeat, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and head coach Zac Taylor had a “private” conversation. Despite the loss, Burrow described the discussion as encouraging and forward-looking.
“It was a very positive conversation,” Burrow told reporters after the game. “We’re not happy with where we’re at, but by no means is the season over. We’re 0-3, but there are 14 games left to play. We just have to keep getting better and see where the cards fall over the next 10 weeks.”
Burrow’s words reflect a determination to turn things around, but the reality of their situation is grim. Historically, teams that start 0-3 face an uphill battle to make the playoffs. Since 1990, only four of 162 teams that began the season with such a record have managed to qualify for the postseason. Even more daunting, just one team since 2000 has accomplished the feat.

Despite these odds, hope is not entirely lost for Cincinnati. They still boast one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in Burrow, along with a potent wide receiver duo in Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. The talent on their roster suggests they have the tools to reverse their fortunes, but time is running out, and the pressure is mounting.
The Bengals will aim to kickstart their turnaround this Sunday when they face a familiar opponent in former Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton and the Carolina Panthers. It’s a game Cincinnati can’t afford to lose if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET, and all eyes will be on whether Burrow and Taylor can rally the team and begin the long climb back from an 0-3 start.
With so much at stake, the Bengals are in desperate need of a spark, and Burrow’s leadership will be critical as they look to pull themselves out of their early-season hole.
