JJ Watt is taking on the NFL head-on.
NFL legend JJ Watt has accused the NFL of “appropriating” money from players, vehemently criticizing what he deems as “absurd” fines imposed for routine football plays.
Watt asserts that these fines do not contribute to player safety, specifically highlighting the legality of cut blocks, which can deliberately target players’ knees.
The former NFL star candidly expressed his concerns on social media, stating, “This is essentially taking money away from the guys. These exorbitant fines for ordinary football actions must come to an end.”

Fines added: “Fines for intentfully malicious plays? Absolutely. Taking $21,694 from a guy for this?! What are we doing. This is out of control.”
Watt continued: “And don’t tell me it’s about ‘player safety.’ Cut blocks are legal. You can LITERALLY target a player’s knee with your helmet intentionally. So don’t act like we’re on some high and mighty ‘player safety’ crusade.”
Watt also shared a video featuring Ravens fullback Patrick Richard executing a block against the Cardinals last Sunday, for which the NFL imposed a fine of $21,694.15, despite it appearing to be a standard block.
Recently retired after an illustrious career, marked by three Defensive Player of the Year awards, as well as numerous accolades, including the Walter Payton Man of the Year, JJ Watt holds a significant presence within the NFL community.
It’s evident that JJ is unafraid of any potential backlash resulting from his outspoken comments.
