Jimmy Kimmel coined a playful nickname for Travis Kelce following the player’s record-breaking contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs recently made Kelce the highest-paid tight end in the NFL with a whopping $34.5 million deal, following his pivotal role in winning a third Super Bowl. Despite this financial windfall, Kimmel humorously dubbed him “Taylor Swift’s broke boyfriend” on his show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
“New contract is worth $34 million, or as Taylor Swift calls it, gum money,” Kimmel joked. “Can you imagine being in a relationship where you make $34M and you’re still the broke boyfriend?”
Indeed, the financial disparity is notable; Taylor Swift boasts a net worth of approximately $1.1 billion, dwarfing Kelce’s $50 million. Yet, Kelce is hardly concerned, especially with $17 million guaranteed this season and potentially more in 2025 if he remains on the roster by the third day of the next league year.
The 34-year-old tight end expressed his enthusiasm about returning to work post-deal in a recent video. Further elaborating on his commitment on his ‘New Heights’ podcast, Kelce conveyed his gratitude towards the Chiefs, “I’m not a guy that sits out. I’m not a guy that holds out. I’m a guy that loves coming into the building, and the Chiefs know that. So, for them to want to get this done for me knowing how much blood, sweat and tears that I put into this thing, I’m extremely grateful.”
Now considered by many as the best tight end in NFL history, Kelce is gearing up for the next season with over 11,000 receiving yards and 74 receiving touchdowns under his belt, along with four All-Pro first-team selections and nine Pro Bowl appearances.
