Over the past year, the quarterback situation for the San Francisco 49ers has undergone significant changes.
At the start of 2022, Trey Lance was the starting quarterback for the team. However, his tenure was short-lived as he suffered a season-ending injury after just two weeks.
This injury paved the way for Jimmy Garoppolo to take over, but unfortunately, he also suffered a season-ending injury.
In Garoppolo’s absence, Brock Purdy stepped in as the starting quarterback and successfully led the team to the NFC Championship game.
As we look ahead to 2023, Purdy has been named the starting quarterback for the 49ers, while both Lance and Garoppolo have moved on to different teams.
Garoppolo has taken on the role of starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, while Lance has recently been traded to the Dallas Cowboys. When asked about the trade and his thoughts on Lance’s new opportunity, Garoppolo expressed that the situation was strange.
“Weird situation,” Jimmy G told Sports Illustrated.
He acknowledged that there have been many unusual circumstances in San Francisco but refrained from elaborating further.
“Been a lot of weird situations over there in San Francisco. I’ll just leave it at that. But I’m happy Trey got another shot. I’m happy he’s getting to Dallas, gets another opportunity and hopefully things work out there.”

Despite this, he expressed happiness for Lance and his chance with the Cowboys, hoping that things work out well for him in Dallas.
It’s important to note that Lance was initially drafted by the 49ers as the No. 3 pick, which required the team to trade a significant amount of draft capital. However, he is now with a different team after making fewer than five starts in the NFL.
With this move, Lance now has the opportunity to prove the 49ers wrong for moving on from him as he embarks on his new journey in Dallas.
