Andrea Thome, wife of the legendary Hall of Fame slugger Jim Thome, reached a breaking point with a Cleveland radio station on Friday.
During an episode of The Really Big Show on ESPN Cleveland, host Aaron Goldhammer issued a challenge to an intern: get Thome on the air, and win $100.
However, the station’s attempt at a fun bit quickly turned sour when Andrea Thome took to social media to express her frustration. She criticized the show for crossing boundaries by bombarding her and her son with requests, flooding their notifications with multiple posts.
“I did not expect to have grown men on ESPN Cleveland bullying me on International Women’s Day because I won’t interrupt my husband while he is working across the country to call in so your intern can win $100,” wrote Andrea Thome. “How about I Venmo the kid and you guys back off?”
Her displeasure didn’t end there.
“They went as far as repeatedly calling my son’s high school and even his baseball coach,” she continued. “They peppered my son with multiple DMs while he is IN SCHOOL. All for what? Attention? Mission accomplished. And then they criticize me on social media for not participating in their ‘fun little bit.’ Shameful.”
The Thome family holds a special place in Cleveland, with Jim Thome being a beloved figure in the city. He was drafted by Cleveland in 1989 and spent 12 seasons there, with a brief reunion in 2011 for 22 games.
