Is Aaron Rodgers’ imminent return to the field a realistic possibility?
Despite Rodgers’ expressed confidence in making a comeback “in a few weeks,” a New York Jets source has dismissed the notion as “insane.”
In a recent conversation with The Athletic, a “high-ranking” Jets source expressed skepticism about the potential return of Aaron Rodgers, deeming it “insane” and stating that they cannot envision how it could be remotely feasible.
“I just don’t see how it’s remotely possible, that’s where I’m at,” one high-ranking Jets source told The Athletic, speaking on the condition of anonymity. “I’m not counting it out, but it would be insane if it happened.”
Even if Rodgers were physically capable of resuming play later in the season, the Jets’ current standing at 4-4 leaves little to play for, especially after a disappointing Monday Night Football loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in which the offense failed to score a single touchdown.
During a conversation with Chargers safety Derwin James on the field after the game, a hot mic caught Rodgers stating that he would return in “a few weeks.”
Hypothetically, if Rodgers were to return for the Jets’ December 10 matchup against the Houston Texans, it would mark just under three months since he suffered his Achilles injury on September 11, which would be an exceptionally swift recovery from such an injury in the NFL.

Previously, Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers set the precedent for a remarkably rapid Achilles injury recovery, returning in just 5.5 months. However, over the weekend, Akers experienced another Achilles injury, although it was not the same one that he initially injured.
With the Jets currently at a 4-4 record, their upcoming Week 10 game against the Raiders in Las Vegas is likely a must-win if they wish to maintain their playoff hopes.
Should Rodgers rush his return prematurely, he risks further injury, which could ultimately curtail his career. Given his age, it would be wise for him to proceed cautiously if he aims to continue playing well into his 40s.
