You can tell that the Jets’ social media team had this one prepared.
If there were any doubts about the personal element in Sunday’s game between the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets, the Jets quickly dispelled them with their postgame message on social media.
The Jets triumphed over the Broncos with a score of 31-21 and wasted no time directing their attention towards Broncos coach Sean Payton after the game.

They posted a meme mocking Payton for his preseason remarks about the Jets’ organization. In line with a recent viral meme featuring the shrugging actor Kevin James, the Jets shared an edited image of a surprised-looking James sporting Payton’s signature visor, accompanied by the caption, “When you lose to the ‘offseason champs.'”
As you may recall, Payton had previously dismissed the Jets as a team overly focused on “winning the offseason” in comments he made earlier in the year. During the same interview, Payton criticized his predecessor, current Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, labeling his coaching performance as “one of the worst in the history of the NFL.” He later issued a public apology for those remarks.
The Jets made it abundantly clear before the game that they hadn’t forgotten Payton’s comments, and their social media team certainly remembered. This all added up to what has to be considered one of the most embarrassing days in Payton’s career.
