The Jets are hollywood now that Aaron Rodgers is at the helm.
Despite the HC of NYJ publicly and privately expressing their lack of interest in serving as the focal point of this year’s preseason show, the NFL will apparently not be swayed.
The Jets, along with the Saints, Bears, and Commanders, fit the criteria for being required to participate in the 2023 preseason Hard Knocks assignment.
The Jets, Saints, and Bears have explicitly declined, while the Commanders have indicated they would participate if assigned.
Per a league source, the Jets are bracing for the preseason Hard Knocks assignment, despite making known publicly (and privately) their lack of interest in serving as the focal point of this year’s show.
The league had approached other teams, searching for a volunteer, but the Lions declined after being approached for a second appearance. The Jets cannot technically decline, but the NFL typically doesn’t make a team submit to Hard Knocks against their wishes.
Despite the Jets’ reluctance, they are arguably the most interesting team of the four that fit the criteria and could provide a more compelling presentation if they received the short straw.
