The notion of Tom Brady joining the Jets can finally be laid to rest.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Jets will not be reaching out to Brady in an attempt to entice him out of retirement, despite Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending injury.
“I’ve been informed that the team won’t be approaching Brady to gauge his interest in a return to football,” Russini tweeted on Wednesday morning. “Brady has also made it clear to close associates that he’s finished with football.”
This outcome was always expected in the Brady-Jets scenario, but the persistent speculation following Aaron Rodgers’ injury on Monday night necessitated this clarification.
While the Jets won’t be attempting to coax Brady out of retirement, they have reportedly explored the possibility of Chad Henne, who retired following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory in February.
As Rodgers recovers from his torn Achilles, Zach Wilson will assume the starting role for the Jets. New York is considering the addition of an experienced quarterback to support Wilson, although it’s unlikely to be a high-profile acquisition.
