Jeff Bezos didn’t amass his billionaire status without getting what he wants.
It seems like an early Christmas gift for Amazon chief Jeff Bezos, as the much-criticized Thursday Night Football broadcast on Prime Video could be poised for its most significant viewership tonight.
Tonight, the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Denver Broncos, and while it’s already unusual for the reigning Super Bowl champions to appear, an even more prominent figure will grace Arrowhead Stadium – Taylor Swift.
As reported by TMZ, Swift is set to attend the Chiefs vs. Broncos game tonight. This marks her first appearance at an NFL game since she attended the Week 4 matchup between the Chiefs and the New York Jets.
What’s even more noteworthy is that the Chiefs-Jets game from Week 4 garnered the highest ratings for any primetime Sunday broadcast since Super Bowl LVII back in February. This sets the stage for an anticipated strong viewership for tonight’s game on Prime Video.
Despite the less-than-stellar matchup, people were initially expected to tune out of the game. However, it appears that Jeff Bezos may have played a role in securing Taylor Swift’s attendance. Bezos has been trending in the wake of the news about her appearance.
NFL analyst Michael Lombardi perhaps summed it up best: “Jeff Bezos is the happiest man on the planet right now.”
Prime Video’s NFL game ratings have typically paled in comparison to major networks like CBS, NBC, FOX, and ESPN/ABC. If Taylor Swift’s presence leads to a surge in ratings for Prime Video, the company might finally find itself on a level playing field with the big players in football broadcasting.
The NFL is certainly benefiting from Taylor Swift’s newfound interest in attending NFL games.
