Jayson Tatum and Ella Mai were all smiles at the recent wedding of Tatum’s former teammate, Marcus Smart. Tatum looked dapper in a mint pinstripe suit, while Mai was stunning in a chartreuse gown with a plunging neckline.
The couple’s romance began in October 2020 during the pandemic and has continued to flourish. While they initially kept their relationship low-key, Mai inadvertently revealed their connection when she shared a TikTok from Tatum’s home during the 2021 offseason. Their first public appearance together was in July 2022 at Michael Rubin’s 4th of July White Party.
This past weekend, the couple traveled to California to attend Marcus Smart’s wedding. Smart and Tatum were teammates on the Celtics for six seasons from 2017 to 2023. Smart was traded in the recent offseason as part of the deal that brought Kristaps Porzi??is to Boston.

Despite the trade, Tatum had nothing but praise for his former teammate, saying, “He’s going to love it, and the fans are going to love him, the city is going to love him. Sad to see him go, but happy for him to get a new start and excited to see what he does. They’re getting a leader, a winner who’s been to the playoffs every year. We’ve been to the Finals together, so he knows what it takes to get there. Obviously extremely talented, the best defender in the league. He’s just a guy that you love to have on your team.”
Tatum, originally from St. Louis and a high school graduate from Creve Coeur, ventured out of state for college, committing to Duke under the coaching of Coach K. Last month, Tatum was seen hanging out with Sexyy Red, also a product of St. Louis. Red shared an image of their hangout on her Instagram, captioned “St. Louis stuff, man” along with a blood drop emoji. Tatum was dressed casually in jeans and a Kobe-Jordan shirt, while Red sported a blonde wig and a revealing purple outfit. There was something written on the back of her shorts, with only the word “Daddy” visible in the picture.
The internet had a playful time with the image, particularly poking fun at Tatum’s somewhat awkward posture. One person jokingly noted, “Tatum scared to grab them cheeks ?,” while another added, “That boy fist sweating? Didn’t even open his hand up. Everyone looks like a fan next to you?.” Some commenters also referenced Red’s rumored relationship with Drake, with one individual cautioning, “Not sure DRAKE will be happy with u taking pic with that dawg.”
