The social media feud between Jay Gruden and Robert Griffin III escalated on Thursday, culminating in a decisive blow from the former Washington coach.
While watching the Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts face relentless pressure on Monday, Gruden expressed his concerns about the lack of protection for quarterbacks.
This prompted Griffin to respond, sparking a back-and-forth exchange on the platform.
On Thursday, Griffin escalated the conflict by posting a video on social media, attempting to revive the dispute and provoke a reaction from Gruden. In a now-deleted response, Gruden didn’t mince words, asserting, “You weren’t good enough. Kirk was better. Cleveland didn’t want you. Baltimore didn’t either. Quit blaming me.”
Gruden referred to Kirk Cousins, who had replaced Griffin as the Washington starter. Cousins has continued to succeed in the NFL, validating Gruden’s decision, while Griffin has been out of the league for some time.

Adding a finishing blow, Gruden told Griffin to “go race a pigeon,” ultimately putting an end to the social media exchange. Despite Griffin’s initial confidence in winning the online confrontation, he found himself knocked out.
It’s unfortunate that Gruden deleted his post, underscoring how the dynamics between a quarterback and coach can remain challenging to navigate even years after their time together on the field.
