Jason Kelce has set the record straight about a viral video that showed him flipping a modified golf cart on Philadelphia’s Broad Street last week. The former Philadelphia Eagles center revealed that the incident occurred while filming a sketch for his upcoming late-night show, They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce—and that the dramatic flip was definitely not part of the script.
The Viral Video
The 37-year-old NFL legend, who retired after 13 seasons with the Eagles, was seen driving a golf cart modified to resemble one of the team’s football helmets. As Kelce cruised down Broad Street, the video showed him swerving side to side before taking a sharp turn that caused the cart to tip over.
The clip, which ended with the cart flipping, left fans concerned for his safety and baffled about why he was driving the unusual vehicle.
Explaining the Incident
Kelce addressed the video on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. He reassured fans that he was unharmed and shared the backstory of the shoot.
“We literally stopped traffic to do these shoots. It’s a fun bit, it’s good,” Kelce said. “The Eagles have this one [helmet cart] and a throwback Kelly Green version of it—they live in the stadium. We thought it’d be funny… we’re going to use this footage in conjunction with the ‘Late Night Show.’”
He admitted, however, that the cart flip was unintentional. “I just took that one swerve a little bit too hard, and I just couldn’t course-correct. Oh no.”

A Close Call
Travis Kelce chimed in to highlight how dangerous the situation could have been. “Dude, that can get dicey…” he remarked.
Jason agreed, adding, “No, for sure. I stuck my arm out—it could have gone real bad, it could have gone horrendously bad.”
Travis then shared his own experience with similar incidents, recalling, “I’ve actually seen this go real bad, like broken-hand bad, on a golf course. You were on pavement! Thank god you came out unscathed.”
Jason jokingly downplayed the risk, saying, “It’s pavement, so it’s pretty soft. Golf courses are pretty hard with all that grass.” However, he admitted that he knew the flip was inevitable as soon as the cart’s wheels left the ground. “I got those wheels up and I was like, ‘Oh dear, here it goes. I can feel it coming.’ Luckily I had my helmet on and I came out unscathed.”
He credited his helmet for protecting him during the fall, humorously adding, “Dad always told us to wear a helmet. Those helmets with the wings on them, protected me for a while.”
Kelce’s New Late-Night Venture
The helmet cart stunt is part of a promotional segment for Kelce’s late-night talk show, They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce, which will premiere on January 3.
The show is set to air on ESPN for five consecutive Fridays, with the final episode scheduled for February 1. Each episode will air at 1 a.m., except the finale, which starts at 1:30 a.m.
Kelce first announced the show during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last month. During the interview, he revealed his lifelong love for late-night talk shows and shared that Kimmel has been mentoring him on the art of hosting. “Jimmy’s been showing me the ropes,” Kelce said on New Heights, hinting at the blend of humor, interviews, and skits that fans can expect from the show.
Looking Ahead
While Kelce’s football career may be behind him, his foray into entertainment is just beginning. The viral video of his cart flip has only added to the anticipation surrounding his late-night debut, giving fans a glimpse of the humor and unpredictability he plans to bring to the show.
As for the infamous helmet cart? It’s likely to remain an unforgettable part of Kelce’s transition from NFL icon to late-night personality.
Fans can rest assured, however, that their favorite center has emerged from the incident unscathed and ready to tackle his next challenge—with or without wheels.
