Jason Kelce addressed comments on social media that labeled his wife, Kylie Kelce, a “homemaker,” shortly after expressing disagreement with controversial remarks made by NFL kicker Harrison Butker about women in the workforce.
Jason clarified his views via X on Monday, May 27: “I don’t view Kylie simply as a homemaker; she is my wife and the mother of our children. She has her own career just as I do, and together we manage our household. Our marriage is based on partnership and equality. We prioritize love, mutual support, and commitment to our family above all else.”
He also responded to remarks about his home’s appearance on television, saying, “Both of us are involved in raising our kids and managing our home. Yes, it’s messy, but that’s life with three young children, active careers, and neither of us obsessing over cleanliness.”

On the “New Heights” podcast episode aired on Friday, May 24, which he co-hosts with his brother Travis Kelce, Jason discussed his disagreement with Butker’s comments during a commencement speech at Benedictine College. Jason noted that while the speech reflected religious views expected at a Catholic institution, it did not align with his beliefs about family roles and women’s choices.
Jason emphasized the importance of recognizing individual choices about lifestyle and careers, explaining, “When you listen to someone, you absorb what resonates and dismiss what doesn’t. Not everyone must be a homemaker if that’s not the path they choose.”
Butker, who is a teammate of Travis on the Kansas City Chiefs, had faced backlash for his statements implying that women should prioritize homemaking. In his speech, Butker highlighted the significance of marriage and parenting above professional achievements, stating that his wife, Isabelle, felt her life truly began when she embraced her roles as a wife and mother.
Addressing the controversy at the Regina Caeli Academy Courage Under Fire Gala in Nashville on the same Friday, Butker defended his beliefs, underscoring the backlash as a sign of the broader societal disdain for traditional Catholic values, yet also noting the support he received for his freedom of religion.
Throughout the discussion, Jason reinforced his commitment to supporting his wife’s career and choices, reflecting a modern understanding of marital partnership and family dynamics.
