Jason Kelce’s retirement speech on Monday was filled with emotion, but amidst the heartfelt moments, there was a touch of humor, particularly when he reminisced about Nick Foles.
Reflecting on the Eagles’ Super Bowl journey in the 2017 season, Kelce praised Foles for his bravery in the pivotal game. He recalled how Foles boldly approached head coach Doug Pederson and suggested running the “Philly Special” play before halftime—a decision that ultimately turned the tide in their favor.
“I won’t forget Nick Foles having the biggest game of his life, on the biggest stage possible, and the biggest [expletive] on the team, going up to Doug Pederson, and asking for the Philly Special,” Kelce humorously remarked.
In a recent episode of the “New Heights” podcast, Kelce revealed that he sought approval from Foles and his wife before sharing the anecdote publicly. Fortunately, both Foles and his wife gave their consent, allowing Kelce to include the humorous moment in his speech.
“I texted Nick to make sure he was OK with it. He was like, ‘Yeah, you can tell everyone.’ But the surprising one was when he said, ‘I asked Tori,’ his wife, and Tori gave the OK. That was the surprising part.”
The fact that the Foles family embraced the lighthearted remark underscores their good-naturedness, and NFL fans appreciate their sense of humor. Ultimately, Kelce’s retirement speech wouldn’t be complete without his witty comment about Foles.
