Jason Kelce recently addressed his brother Travis Kelce’s early-season struggles in the NFL amid the heightened attention surrounding his personal life. As Travis navigates increased public scrutiny due to his relationship with pop star Taylor Swift, Jason offered insight into his brother’s mindset and focus on football.
Travis, the star tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, had a slow start to the 2024 season, amassing just 69 combined receiving yards over the first three weeks. While some fans were quick to speculate that his high-profile romance might be causing distractions, Travis remained patient, assuring everyone that he would find his groove again.
His patience paid off, with back-to-back strong performances, including 89 yards in Week 4 and nine receptions for 70 yards in the Chiefs’ 26-13 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Monday night.
Before the game, Jason Kelce appeared on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown to discuss Travis’ early-season form. The retired Philadelphia Eagles center was quick to dismiss any notion that Travis was being distracted by the constant media attention surrounding his relationship with Swift.
“I know the optics are that he’s all over the place—and that’s not just optics, that’s reality,” Jason acknowledged. “But he still keeps the main thing the main thing. Football has always been the most important thing in Trav’s life.”

Jason pointed out that, while the public may be more aware of Travis’ off-field activities now, his younger brother has always led a vibrant life outside of football, even before the tabloids began tracking his every move. “He has always lived his life to the fullest,” Jason said. “He has enjoyed his offseasons very much even before Taylor Swift and everything else that was going on in our lives.”
Despite the increased scrutiny and celebrity attention, Jason made it clear that football remains Travis’ top priority. “He’s always going to find a way to make football the number one priority,” Jason emphasized.
As Jason spoke, ESPN broadcast a split-screen showing Taylor Swift walking through the stadium tunnel, drawing attention to the pop star’s presence at the game. Jason, ever the supportive brother, commented on her outfit before returning to his thoughts on Travis’ focus and dedication.
“Trav is always going to find a way to show up and show out,” Jason continued. “I think it’s only a matter of time before he gets back to the Travis Kelce we’ve seen.”
Sure enough, Travis delivered a performance that reminded everyone why he’s one of the NFL’s best tight ends. His nine catches on 10 targets helped the Chiefs secure their fifth consecutive win, and his 70 receiving yards marked a return to form.
With a Week 6 bye ahead, Travis has the opportunity to rest and recharge before facing the San Francisco 49ers on October 20.
As Jason predicted, Travis is steadily returning to the elite level of play fans have come to expect, proving that no amount of off-field attention can distract him from his football goals.
