As the NFC Championship showdown between the Detroit Lions and the San Francisco 49ers approaches on Sunday, echoes of quarterback Jared Goff’s name are reverberating across the state of Michigan.
Videos capturing the spirited chants of ‘Jared Goff’ have gone viral on social media, showcasing the enthusiasm from various sporting events throughout the state.
The fervor extends from Detroit Pistons and Red Wings games to college matchups involving Michigan and Western Michigan, and even at Griffins hockey games. Notably, the chants even reached a high school cheerleading competition.
Addressing the newfound local sensation, Goff expressed that the experience is ‘a little different’ during a Friday interview. He acknowledged receiving videos of the chants and found it ‘pretty cool’ to be part of a city where the fans are so passionate. Goff contrasted the overwhelming support he’s currently receiving in Detroit with the comparatively limited backing during his playoff runs with the former team, the Los Angeles Rams.

Acknowledging the unique circumstances contributing to the fervent support, Goff stated, ‘These fans are unbelievable. I expect to see a lot of them this weekend as well; it’ll be fun.’
Goff, now in his third season with the Lions after a trade from the Rams, has played a central role in the team’s rebuilding process over the past few seasons. In his first season with Detroit, the Lions finished with a 3-10-1 record, a significant improvement from their current 12-5 record this season.
Notably, Goff’s individual performance has seen continuous improvement during his tenure with the Lions. In the regular season, he recorded 407 completions on 605 attempts, accumulating 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
